our office has 6 new machines (6 month old Dells win xp pro)
everything has been fine - until 2 days ago when we installed the xp service pack on 3 of the machines...

now these 3 machines all DRAG while trying to plot - (we have a 1050c plotter)

don't get me wrong it plots out perfect - but takes almost a minute between plot windows - not good!!!

    Any thoughts???

  2. Did you check with HP for updated drivers? I know they have some for some
of their products. There is also a note on MS's web site that says the
first few times you boot up Windows will run slow. I think it is reindexing
for the program demand load function.

    Hi Indigo70
I had exactly the same problem, But i was even dumber, I loaded SP1 for AutoCAD 2005 & then SP2 for windows XP, was having big delays with dialogue boxes not just plotting but also options, There is however hope, You need to delete any ctb files that are not necessary (or at least move them out of the search path), also remove anything unnecessary from the search path, Then get rid of any printers you don't use, There is a detailed document on the Autodesk site regarding this, I think it is no TS45410? Anyway this has worked for me, My machine is now working better than it was before, Hope it works for you

    I appreciate everyones help -

Dean your solution was... well obvious and it did work on one of the machines. I however am still trying to resolve the SP2 problem.

David your answer made me go look for HP drivers - no luck there... HP basicly said goto the website for xp sp2 support and look there... so i did. ( http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=windowsxpsp2 )

had a realtime chat with microsoft "professional" of course he says it's not a problem from sp2 - i retort "it sure is" { i knew more than he did } then he says well when it loads it changes the file placement on the harddrive, if you run disk defrag it will fix that.... ummm no! still not the problem. so his senior tech is to call me within 24 hours ( most likely when we are closed LOL ) we shall see what that bafoon has to say.

what i have figured out though - it is def an issue with the HP 1050C plotter and xp/sp2 talking - because i was able to plot to a .pdf file format and didn't have the same delays.

trying to focus my attention on HP drivers now.

Worst case i will uninstall it on all machines - thanks Dean.
