Our old HP750C+ need to be replaced. What printer do you recommend? . We
would like to have a 42" color printer.
Is HP5500 series are a good choice?
Thanks for any suggestions and feedback.
    thanks

depends on what kind of plots you have:
if you have full-colourd maps or so, a HP5500 can indeed be the good choise.
If most of your plots are line drawings, without coloured areas, the HP 1050+ will be cheaper and faster.
If you don't plot every day, a HP 800 could be enough also...
Always buy the maximum of RAM that is possile for your plotter. UIf you don't need it now, you'll need it in 2 years..

Can you plot a 36"x24" drawing in a 42" plotter without having to do any
"manual" triming. Is there an adapter?

  4. Yes, put 24" roll paper in it.

Yeah you can, by loading a 36" or a 24" roll of paper on the 42" spindle.
People who do need 42" wide plots, usually have 2 or more spindles, each with a roll of paper put on it. It's faster to swithc spindle than to change roll.
If you don't really need 42" widht, the 1050 now also has a multi roll feeder....

If you haven't already purchased the dj5500, I would hesitate until you know what kind of output you want. We have the 750, 755 and 1055 plotters and are happy with the output and think we have control. Just got a dj5500psuv and am on the verge of trying to figure out how to send it back. We have been unable to create output similar to the 1055. Also, draft mode on the 1055 is very acceptable output, on the dj5500 it is definitely draft mode. Other modes on the dj5500 are very slow compared to the 1055. hp tech support tus before the purchase that this was an improvement for our needs. We have yet to realize that. If anyone has knowledge for implementing a dj5500 for use with AutoCAD and existing 1055 plotters, please post up.
    Thanks
