"I have a customized font with some special characters defined. The users currently have to input them using the unicode numbers. For example \U+0084 is the square foot symbol. I would like to add these symbols to the right click menu that comes up in MTEXT. I looked in the documentation and could not find where to find this menu that appears when a user right clicks and selects symbols in the MTEXT editor. I would like to know where this menu is and how I can add my own specials characters (symbols) into it. Please let me know. Thanks!"

  2. I haven't found a way to do this. We suggest using a keyboard macro
program such as Perfect Keyboard which lets you set up your own
custom keystrokes (such as ~cl) and the correct Unicode string will
    be inserted.

  4. One thing we've done is to substitute the special characters into a copy of
some ordinary font definition file (under a different name, of course), IN
PLACE OF characters we wouldn't ever expect to use in construction drawing
notes or dimensions, like the tilde (~), reverse apostrophe (`), exclamation
point, dollar sign, caret (^), underscore, or curly brackets ({ & }), and
more are needed, possibly the ampersand and/or question mark. That way
they're available right on the keyboard, though you have to make sure you're
using the right font. The punctuation you wouldn't be likely to use will
vary depending on your discipline, but if there are enough of those unlikely
keyboard characters for all the custom characters you have, then a simple
chart of equivalents, or little stick-ons on the keys, make it pretty easy
to use. Of course, you don't have those characters available in that
customized version of the font, but you still do in the ordinary base
version, if you really need them. And if you have more custom characters
than unlikely punctuation characters, you might have to try a different
approach. (You could also combine -- substitute the more commonly-used
custom characters into the keyboard, and develop some custom keystrokes for
    the less common ones.)
