    Hi all,

I have been given this project and it's unlike anything I have done before,
what is required is the architects want their new proposed building to be
added to a photo and made to look as realisitc a posible. The programs I can
get use of if I need to are: Architectural Desktop 2004, 3d Studio MAX 6 I
think, could be 5 and I own a copy of AutoCAD 2005.

I am a cad technician and any drawing in 3d or 2d that needs to be done I
will do in AutoCAD, then I was thinking of exporting to Architectural
Desktop and using VIZ render for materials and stuff, the problem I am going
to have is getting it on the photo in the right place, I have seen things
like this done before and have never understood how to accurately place a
building on photos that have perspective and also radiate out from the
center because of the lense. Someone suggested rectirying the photos in cad
and mapping the images onto faces then creating a complete image, someone I
know tried this and it looks rubish. I would rather take one high quality
photo of the site and add a photo realistic view of the proposed building
    onto it.

any tips on how to do this or a link to an online tutorial somewhere would
    GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks
    Remo

    Remo,
While your exploring, check out Sketchup. there is a free download 400 hours
    use only
you will not beleive how easy it is to use. i use for all of my architural
    presentations. you can
bring photo's and drawing to scale. except it wont make 2d drawings with
    formats etc..like Autocad does.
i was off and running with it the first day. if you dont beleive me, check
out the free tutorials available at their web site

    Good Luck

Thanks for ur reply, I have actually checked out that package because
someone in an earlier post recommended it to others, It looks nice and it
does look easy but as I have access to 3ds I shall model in AutoCAD and
render in 3ds whilst matching lens and lighting, I am hoping its going to
    turn out descent.

I've done this a number of times. The best I can suggest is that you
position your viewpoint as closely as possible to what's shown in the photo,
set lights accordingly, then render and use Photoshop or a similar program
to insert the rendering into the photograph. This assumes that you know
    Photoshop. Good luck.

I have also seen this done from one of the 3D magazines that I have
and the procedure is basically the same one mentioned above.
