ACAD 2002 - Can't paste (!)

    I have AutoCAD 2002 and several dwg files in AutoCAD 2000 format.
    When i try to "copy-paste as a block" an object (stairs in a house for
    example) the "Paste as a block" or "Paste" command is disabled.
    I create a new drawing, draw a line and paste it to the previous drawing
    .. The paste is DONE !

    Why can't i paste from the first drawing ?

    A friend of mine uses AutoCAD 2005 and he has no problem at all with
    this drawing.

    What kind of object is the stair? If it's a custom object, it might
    be in proxy mode, which will disable copying if its not allowed by
    the application developer.
