    Hi all,

I am thinking of self-learning to create my own motion movies as a
hobby. However, there are a number of applications available such as 3D
Studio, Lightwave, Cinema4D, etc. I don't know what sort of application
    is suitable for me.

Personally, I am very impressed with the introduction video of
    Autodesk's Motion Builder.

For myself, I don't have any technical problem in computing and I am
not too fuzz about the quality of the image either. I am more concern
    on user interface.

    Many thanks in advance
    Joe

    hi Kuan.joe

i was in the same boat about a year and a half
ago. i started with Max, Maya, and XSI, and
have found that the combination of Max tutorials
that they gave away with the 30 day demo in 2005
and Max being a full function software ... let's
just say i'm concentrating on learning Max.

Ive been usign an old copy of Infini D (Apple Mac) for years BUT

it takes FORVER to render even simple stuff.
its antiquated- the replacement CARERRA just frustrated me

Im leanign between HASH and Cinema4D

for someone whos not that skilled- has been using infini-D- what would
    you recommend?

I went from using Infini-D 4.5 to using Carrara 1.0 and have
used pretty much every version of Carrara since (using 5 Pro
now) - took sometime to come to terms with the GUI, but I really
    like it now.

  9. If you want to start without spending money but want a high
quality package you should try out Blender.
<http://www.blender.org>. Although it's unique UI has quite a
steep learning curve, you will never want to miss it again, once
    you grasped the basic concepts.

The good thing about blender is, that it is a all-in-one package.
It contains a 3D modeller, physics simulation, (non linear)
animation, high quality renderer, compositing and sequence
editing (i.e. cutting, applying effects, transitions etc.) tools
    in a single program.

Plus it's highly customizable and easily extandable by Python
    scripting.
