83 meg file slow to open

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by John Callaway, Jun 24, 2006.

  1. I have a file that was created in Autocad 2000 (83meg) but I am
opening it R14. I realize it is a big file, however it seems to be
making changes/substitutes in the text each time I open the file. This
takes a long time to open. Below is the script that runs during the
    opening.

Command: _open Substituting [simplex.shx] for [WORKING.shx].
    Substituting [simplex.shx] for [ITALICS.shx].
    Substituting [simplex.shx] for [CHAR_FAST_FONT.shx].

    Xref FLHY-09: G:\MAPPING\1Working\topo\flhy-09.dwg
FLHY-09 is unreferenced and has been purged.

    Xref FLHY-09A: G:\MAPPING\1Working\topo\flhy-09A.dwg
FLHY-09A is unreferenced and has been purged.

    Xref FLHY-10: G:\MAPPING\1Working\topo\Flhy-10.dwg
FLHY-10 is unreferenced and has been purged.

    Xref FLHY-10A: G:\MAPPING\1Working\topo\Flhy-10A.dwg
FLHY-10A is unreferenced and has been purged.

    AutoCAD bonus utilities loaded.
    Regenerating drawing.

    Command:
    AutoCAD menu utilities loaded.

    Command:
    AutoCAD bonus Menu loaded.

My question is: Can I change this file so it doesn't have to
substitutes so much when it loads? It takes a long time to load.

Those font substititions aren't causing any delay, and the missing
    XREF's aren't hurting anything either.

  4. OK I just purged it. It seems to have helped a little. However the
Proxy information dialog box appears when I open the file. It doesn't
like it since I am not using the version Acad 2000 it was created in.
I am using R-14. How do I stop the proxy dialog box from showing each
    time I open the file?

  5. Set in the drawing SETVAR >>PROXYNOTICE >>0

In case you didn't know, multiple purges can often get rid of stuff one
    purge leaves behind.
