    Hi all,

I'm working on spec'ing 2 new systems for running solidworks here. I
want to explore the 64 bit options now available. It's my
understanding that this will remove the memory limitations (<2gb) for
applications. Does anyone have a recent component list or a suggestion
of vendor for this type of system? Or any comments on the whole 64bit
    thing?

    Thanks,

    Zander

www.cyberpowerinc.com has both the Intel and the AMD 64 bit chips. They
also have PCI express motherboards, and some of them take the 533 MHz RAM.
I like them because they are cheaper than DELL, and they don't come with the
    bloatware.

I am going for the AMD dual core X2 4800 processor
    4Gb Corsair memory
2x WD Sata 74Gb in raid 0 for the XP64 operating system
1x 200gb Seagate barracuda Sata for local data
    Nvidia Fx3400 PCIe
    Dual layer DVD-ROM Drive
    Asus N8 deluxe motherboard
Oh! and I have just got the MX1000 Logitech laser mouse, wow, what a super
mouse, I have now doubled my score in Unreal tournament 2004 online!

The system is built and running, but using a AMD FX55, as the dual core is
not available in the UK until the 15 August! :-(
I have not installed Solidworks onto it yet, as Sw2006 was released on
Tuesday in the UK and I am waiting for the CD's to do a clean install.
I have all of the benchmarks downloaded and ready to run, I will forward the
    results as soon as possible.
The dual core X2 4800 is 30% faster than the FX55, (not my data), and the
    FX55 fly's!
No more Intel for me!! :)
Mind you I might have shot myself in the foot as my boss says, "that as I
will be able to do more work in less time, I need less hours so need less
    pay!!!"
Dam cheek!, I am worth every penny that he pays me and more!, lol
I hope he was kidding, gulp!
I am currently using a Compaq 310 with 2Gb ram and an Nvidia Quadro 980, 3
years old and it is total pants for Solidworks 2005 sp4.1
With major white screens and long check-in times.
Remember to get an upgrade "piggy bank", because your new pc, will be old
    next week!!!

    In UK English
pants or knickers = underwear worn under trousers, (skirts or dresses if you
are that way inclined), ie Y fronts, boxers shorts, Gstrings etc...
    trousers = trousers
You even spell colour wrong! (color) ????
    lol
    :p
