64 meg file

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by John Callaway, Jun 20, 2006.

  1. How do I manage a 64 meg file so I can insert a block from it to a new
file keeping the old file intact? Autocad quits responding every time.
I know it is a large file and I have tried freezing several layers,
but I am still having problems. I want to keep the original file and
take portions of it creating new files.

  2. How are you trying to do that?

  3. If I understand what you're asking, the answer is to use the WBLOCK
command to save portions of the existing file as new files. Be sure
that the Retain bullet is ticked under the Objects section of the dialog
box so that you don't change the original file, and be sure to use new
and unique file names for whatever you WBLOCK.

  4. OK I will try that. Also with the same file that was created in
Autocad 2000 but I am opening it R14 I have the following text
    substitutes:
Command: _open Substituting [simplex.shx] for [WORKING.shx].
    Substituting [simplex.shx] for [ITALICS.shx].
    Substituting [simplex.shx] for [CHAR_FAST_FONT.shx].

    Command:
    AutoCAD menu utilities loaded.

    Command:
    AutoCAD bonus Menu loaded.

My question is: Can I change this file so it doesn't have to
substitiute so much whwn it loads? It takes a long time to load.
