5si suddenly slowed way down

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by James Maeding, Jul 13, 2004.

  1. We have several HP 5si printers, all with jetdirect and about 20 megs of memory.
    We are on win2k server.
One of the laserjets suddenly slowed down a lot when plotting from acad. We replaced everything possible including
    network connection and cable....
I am using the default windows driver in Acad 2002.
The plot files I am testing are like 2 meg, not very large. It does not seem to matter, any plot file runs slow.
Every other prog prints fast, even for larger stuff like images.

Does anyone have anything to suggest? We are ready to put this one out to pasture with the admin people.
    thx

have you plugged your laptop directly into the printer?
I think you will need a cross over cable
That will remove the network and the print que server.
    Try that first.

After that, plot to a .plt file so that you can have reproduceable
results. Use something like goplot to send to the different printers
to test the speed. If all the printers are faster then that one printer
then you need service on it.

Just to make sure you should check the network speed at that jack.
Install qcheck on your desktop machine. Plug your laptop into
the jack at the printer and test the network speed with qcheck. You
should get about 80 to 90 mbps for a 10/100 network. This is just to
make sure that the network connection is good.

Call me if you need more help
