3D spring model via solid model technique

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by jimmy_sayavong, Dec 7, 2005.

  1. Is anybody in this forum kind enough to share how to create
3D model of a spring? I had tried many different ways
but unsuccessful. Please e-mail or post your response or comments.
    I am using Acad2002.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi

I would make it in 3DMAX where it is a standard feature.
I would then export it into AutoCAD and proberly make it into a block
that I can then place and scale the size spring I want. Do one one
drawing unit high and wide and deep, then you can directly place it the
exact size much easier when you put in the block.

Try this: use HLCurve (see www.hlsolution.com) to create a helix curve, then
use the Extrude tool with the Path option.

There's a lisp routine out there. I have it saved somewhere, when I find
    time I'll dig it up.

Since Acad doesn't do compound curves it's actually a long series of
very short but straight sided round segments.
