2005: Docking Project and Properties windows

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by Randy Richardson, Jun 15, 2004.

  1. Working in AutoCAD 2002 in the VBA IDE I've gotten used to haveing the
Project window docked to the upper left corner and the Properties window is
docked to the lower left corner. I like it that way.

Unfortunately, in AutoCAD 2005 it seems that if I dock either of these
windows it wants to go either the whole height or the whole width of the
screen. I don't like it. Am I stuck with it this way in AutoCAD 2005, or
    am I missing something?

  2. Never mind. I guess I just needed to play with it a little longer. It's
working fine now. Sorry about that.

  3. Now that's interesting. I have obeyed the oft-repeated injunction not to
change the subject heading, but it looks like Outlook Express is removing
the "2005:" portion all on its own.

    It's not my fault!!!!!!

It was years before I got frustrated enough with this type of thing (mostly in the VB/VBA IDE) that I did some research on the web about it and discovered there actually are a couple of simple rules that dictate how docking works.

    1. When you're dragging a dockable window, where it will dock is dictated by what your cursor is pointing at when you let go of the mouse button. Typical "hot" areas are scroll bars and title bars. Unless you realise this we tend to watch the entire drag window which is deceptive.
    2. If you want to drag a dockable window *close* to a docking area without actually docking it, hold down the Ctrl key while you drag and drop.
