I hope I am posting to the right forum, I cannot seem to find one
specifically for 2004. The problem I am having is I cannot load 2004
SP1 and this means I can't use late binding with 2004 and therefore I
cannot develop for the 2004 environment until I find a solution.

In trying to download SP1 I am going to the Autodesk website and
opening the file for my version (Stand Alone & Locked) and when I do I
    get the following
    message:

"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer
    service
because the program to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch
may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program
    to
be upgraded exist on your computer and that you have the correct
    patch."

I am certain that I am using the correct exe (SP1_sl). I even tried
    the other
exe (SP1_ul) to make sure and I get the exact same message.

I have noticed that the Windows Installer does not prompt me to put
the original disk in. When the SP1 starts to load I see the progress
bar for just a second and then the error message appears.

I was running 3i before and I believed that it was reading a registry
file and it didn't know I had 2004 installed.

So I uninstalled 2004 and I removed all of the reg. files I could tell
were AutoCAD registry files. I reinstalled 2004 again and still the
    same results.

I removed the AutoCad shared files folder from C:/Program Files/Shared
    Files/.

Finally I have bought a new hard drive and installed only 2004 on it
    and still the same message.

I'm out of ideas. Any suggestion or help would be great. I cannot
develop any further until I can get this solved.

    Thanks!
