11 X17 PRINTERS

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by X X X X X X X X, Mar 4, 2004.

  1. I am using an HP1120C at the moment, but I think it is going to the grave
soon. Too many printers out there to know what is good anymore.... I print
mostly 11 x 17 CAD drawings.... what is the best printer going at the moment
    for this....???

(I have had several HP wide format printers and all of them have given me
paper feed headaches when I print the 11 x 17, they are just very
    temperamental)

Thanks for any and all help.

    I have an Epson STylus Photo 1280 that can print 13 X 44, and 11 x 17 is
    just fine.

It never jambs, but does run out of ink a lot. It has only one black, and
one color cartridge, so replacing yellow means replacing them all.

The Epson 2200 is better and sells for about $699 not including any rebates.
The ink is supposed to last over 80 years, and the ink is almost waterproof,
as it does not smear as easily at regular ink jet images.

The Epson 2200 has 7 separate ink cartridges and they are bigger then the
1280. In the long run the ink alone would pay for the 2200.

The images are great. Very good.

I don't run 100's of pages per day, so do not know how it would stand up in
a very heavy work environment. For about $100 you can get a 2 year warranty
that permits you to take it back for any reason and swap it out for new one
    or a new different one.

  3. inkjet..... and would like to have a similar setup as the HP 1120.... (one
paper tray on bottom, with ability to just slide the 11x17 in the top tray
    when needed)

money is not that big of a factor really.....

Have you tried using a roll feed on your plotter?

We have the 1120c as well.....and replaced it with an
HP CP1700 on advisement from people here on this group.

have been very pleased with the cp1700 for a low cost
    ink jet 11x17 printer

    Hope that helps!

I also have the HP CP1700 (C8108A) and added the second paper tray (C8220A).
    My only complaints are

    1) it squeaks when printing (I probably need to have it professionally
serviced & cleaned - I'd do it myself, but can't find an instruction manual)
    2) it would pull 8-1/2 x 11 crooked from the second tray, so I have the
8-1/2 x 11 in the top tray (only 150 sheets) and the 11x17 in the
    second/lower tray (500 sheets).

I'll cast my vote for the CP1700. We have one here at the office, and I bought a refurbished one for home (I do a lot of work there to.)

It does make a bit of noise when plotting (both of them do) but it produces excellent color prints and top quality mono. It has individual ink cartridges for each color (yellow, cyan, magent & black) so you only have to change the ink that runs out. The print heads are also replaceable (separate from the ink cartridges.

In short: I'm happy with the printer and would recommend it.

We had a hp2500c that we replaced with a hp2600c. The 2600c lasted a little
over a year before she died. The 2500c we transfered to our sister company
and it still works although the print quality is ot good enough for cad dwgs
anymore (lines and streaks that no techs could fix).

Bottom line we thought the inkjets stunk. We now have a Hp5500n color laser
jet that rocks. I can print 300 sheets of 11X17 in less than half an hour.
I would have been lucky to get that out in a day with the 2600. Laser the
    only way.
